NANSEN EXPLORER

NEW CONCEPT FOR YACHTING

Originally built as a research vessel, she represents today a hybrid between a capable and powerful commercial ship with the comforts and service of a luxury yacht.

THE PERFECT EXPLORER

Named after the Norwegian polar explorer, founder of physical oceanography and Nobel laureate Fridtjof Nansen, starting her life as a research vessel, the ICE 1A+ vessel is polar alumni and, after a comprehensive refit in 2021 by her current world-famous polar expedition owners, she is fully equipped to take on the unforgiving swells of the North Atlantic Ocean without a struggle and remote destinations in the polar regions than even some ice-class yachts would avoid.

"We sailed 165 nautical miles overnight in lumpy seas and the ship has still arrived here (Rrykjavik) on time. It would have taken a more traditional superyacht three days to get up here.”
Ben Lyons
CEO of EYOS

INTERIOR

Thanks to a just-completed multi-million-dollar refit that has transformed the interior of this commercial-grade ship into a luxury yacht, the NANSEN EXPLORER is built to wrap its guests in a warm blanket of luxury too. Once inside, you will be stunned by the dissonance of the brutal hull and the exquisite interiors with luxurious furnishings, lighting, and huge windows. The main salon is more like a lounge, is a comfortable spot for guests to gather and share stories (and selfies) of their daily adventures. Down below, a large gym with all the latest equipment to maintain your fitness routine is available. At the very top of the ship, the Bridge is always open if you want to chat with one of the Officers.

GUEST CAPACITY

Originally built to carry 60 passengers, she now carries only 12 lucky guests in 7 staterooms comprising owner's suite, 1 VIP cabin, 1 twin and 1 convertible. Staterooms are modern and spacious with comfortable beds, floor to ceiling windows and spa-like bathrooms.

CREW

The NANSEN EXPLORER’s ability to go places where other yachts can’t go is enhanced by its officers, crew, and guides that are experienced in dealing with the special challenges that come with luxury polar exploration. The handpicked crew selected to run MV Nansen Explorer have decades of experience within the polar expedition world and superyacht industry. With the partnership between Nansen Polar Expeditions and EYOS, charterers are ensured the right mix of expedition expertise and superyacht luxury. Amongst the crew onboard are a Captain and three deck officers, allowing for continuous navigation, and an interior crew of two talented chefs offering a "steady diet" of Michelin star level cuisine, four stewardesses, and two Expedition Guides.

“The polar capabilities of Nansen Explorer really excite me. Her Ice Class 1A and powerful dual-engine set-up enables us to go where very few others can. With a 24-hour operation and a complete and competent bridge and engine team, we can go further and experience more.”
Sindre Holberg
NANSEN EXPLORER's Captain

EXPLORATION

The exploration part of the charter is the icing on the cake of the NANSEN EXPLORER. Besides the previously mentioned experienced guides who work out the routes and landings so that you feel fully immersed in the culture, nature and landscape of the area you are lucky enough to visit, new experiences with an element of surprise await you - something that this expedition prides itself on. Each evening the guests are given information about their location and a vague itinerary for the following day, but this is merely a hint of what’s to come, and throughout the trip a series of wonderfully exciting occurrences take place that elevate the experience to unforeseen heights. Unexpected helicopter rides with a veteran Icelandic helicopter pilot, photo-hunting for whales on Zodiacs, watching wild animals that you can reach with your hand, and when the day seems to be over - bathing in thermal springs with a glass of Bollinger and Montecristo cigars... All these and other surprises from NANSEN EXPLORER's team can make even the most jaded luxury traveler feel the some of the joy and wonder we once felt as kids.

UNIQUE SERVICE - INDIVIDUAL CABINS BOOKING

The NANSEN EXPLORER team is also concerned about couples and singles in search of adventure. Because it's not always feasible to charter a yacht when you are single for these passengers there is a unique opportunity to book single single/double cabins for the duration of the 12-day expedition without chartering. Kayaking around glaciers and hiking snow-covered slopes are on the itinerary, though the expedition's focus will be on photographing wild life with an instructor named as one of the world's best wildlife photographers.

UNIQUE CAPABILITIES

NANSEN EXPLORER also boasts an expansive heli-deck, complete with onboard refueling capabilities that make it easy for heli-skiing and inland exploration. An additional space for expedition preparations and relaxing in no way interferes with the many open deck areas clear for wildlife and scenic viewing. There’s also plenty of space in Adventure Hangar for the numerous kayaks, dive equipment, SUPs, and expedition-grade Zodiacs that make it possible to have intimate encounters with whales and other wildlife that makes polar exploration so special.
