FROM CONCEPTION TO IMPLEMENTATION

Sturdiness and luxury are the principles which formed the basis of this innovative superyacht conceived by the owner. An experienced charterer looking for unusual sailing itineraries, he was extremely frustrated with the quality, appearance, and service of the yachts that were being chartered in the farthest reaches of the world.

He wondered why an explorer yacht worth more than $40 million had to look ugly, be like a tug or a support vessel; why tenders so small and uncomfortable in such a yacht, since active travelers, going diving or fishing, spend all day in them?

Having failed to find what he was after on the open market, he turned his attention to creating a vessel to meet his requirements. The entire project, from conception to launch, took three years. Canadian Greg Marshall was commissioned with the design as he came up with the glass, styling and versatility that Beattie was after. But the search for a yard as obsessed with quality and novelty as the future owner was delayed: candidates from the USA, Turkey, China and Europe were eliminated, and the final choice fell on a non-trivial company from New Zealand - McMullen & Wing. As a result, the yard launched a purposeful large-volume 45 metre vessel that immediately declared herself as an explorer looking for adventure.

PERFORMANCE & RANGE

The BIG FISH steel hull is tough enough to withstand the toughest ice.

Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 16 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 98,000 litre fuel tanks at cruising speed. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway. An enormous galley complete with walk-in cooled pantry, copious stowage for provisions and 11 Hoshizaki fridge/freezers cut down the need for supermarket visits.

Every explorer yacht needs a substantial tender – ‘a kind of SUV of the sea’ – and for Big Fish an 8.5 metre custom tender was built in aluminium, powered by a diesel jet engine with a 250-mile range and equipped with head and holding tank, refrigerator, and hot and cold water.

INTERIOR

Open spaces, hand craftsmanship and luxury are fundamental to the interior of the BIG FISH. Her interior design makes use of glass as a recurring feature with glass balustrades and glass stairway treads creating a common theme of bright transparency throughout, all the way up to the four-panel skylight. She also has floor to ceiling windows in the main saloon and dining areas offering unimpeded and spectacular panoramic views. The theme of transparency and light has been picked up in the interior furnishings and décor, which was undertaken by Ann Motion Design with input from chief stewardess Jenny Nicholson. The atrium is a major feature of the interior, an open space soaring up through three decks, terminating with a four-panel skylight above. The overall effect is of light pouring down into the interior living spaces. BIG FISH has 159 glass panels, the largest of which - 6 m2 weighs 470 kg. 250 square metres of custom laminated windows with UV protection properties, and acoustic and thermal functions. Handmade furniture, the best textiles, pastel colors, stunning ultra-modern lighting, a high-tech dynamic three-storey video wall and smart control of all systems will give the very aesthetic pleasure and comfort that you will remember after a long time.

GUEST CAPACITY

Big Fish offers guest accommodation for up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising a master suite, two VIP cabins, two double cabins and two twin cabins. There are 5 beds in total, including 2 king and 3 queen. She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

EXTERIOR

Outside, BIG FISH features epoxy-infused granite decks, which unlike teak, are more hard-wearing and more environmentally friendly to produce and maintain. Her exteriorareas are perfect for laid-back lounging with a stunning sun deck, a crow’s nest with built-in, comfortable seating and fold down terraces that give the sensation of seamlessly gliding across the water. To further enhance the views and the interaction with the surroundings, sections of the boat fold out to create terraces and beaches. On the main deck, the port and starboard bulwarks opposite the principal dining area fold out to open up wide terraces and offer views to the horizon. On the lower aft deck, two side bulwarks fold flat to just above water level to create beaches.

ECO-FRIENDLY YACHT

In this respect, the owner anticipated modern trends of the 1920s, as one of his main requirements was to create an environmentally responsible and eco-friendly yacht. The designers focused on energy saving, cleaning systems and renewable materials. 98% of the lighting on the yacht is LED. Granite decks replace environmentally irrecoverable teak. Plastic water bottles are banned on board and guests receive personal stainless steel bottles instead, which are refilled during the cruise. Engine exhaust is used to heat the water here, and graywater treatment systems are in operation. The tender is equipped with solar panels too. Among this, BIG FISH has been participating in the program of an international organization SeaKeeper Society, she has an ocean, weather and climate monitoring system on board. BIG FISH collects information every minute which transmitted to scientists in 156 countries around the world. remember, not only will you relax on the boat, but you will also contribute to informing the scientific community about the state of the oceans. With diving and fishing experts amongst her crew and carrying extensive diving and game fishing equipment, as well as underwater cameras, guests will have the opportunity to explore the secrets of the depths whilst chartering on board this spectacular yacht.
